*A quote about children, childhood, families, early childhood, etc. that is especially meaningful to you.
"We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today."

Overview
"Once there was
a little tree...and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of
unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and
versatile Shell Silverstein.
Every day the boy
would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide
down her trunk...and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he wanted
more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave.
This is a tender
story touched with sadness, aglow with consolation.
A story about a child that
touched your heart.......
Earlier today I wrote about how
you never know what is about to happen and man that is the truth. I own Green
Gables Day School and love each one of my 72 children like they are my own.
Today one of my three year old had a seizure on the playground. It is the first
time I had to call 911 in ten years of being open. The child fell into a very
deep sleep after the seizure and his breathing became irregular. As I lay on
the mulch next to this precious child waiting for the ambulance to arrive, I
realize just how quickly things can change. I held that child's hand until EMS
arrived. As lay there with his hand on mine I looked at that small hand, he is
so tiny an innocent. In ten years he probably will not remember me, but this
child has touched my heart.
Hi, the giving tree is one of my favorites too! It was one of the first stories that I added to my growing collection as a new teacher. Your story about your student who had a seizure just touched my heart. I'm happy to know that you were able to dial 911 and didn't panic. I know that his family is happy to have you as his childcare provider.
ReplyDeleteHi Brooke!
ReplyDeleteI love the quote you chose! I think we spend so much time trying to prepare our kids for the challenges they will face tomorrow (which is vitally important) that we forget to let them have fun and enjoy the day. Sometimes we need to just let them be little.
You must have been so terrified yesterday. It is amazing how moments like this make the world stop spinning around you and make you focus on the moment. I know you said in your discussion posting that you wanted to become more passionate about your pre-school. Events like this should show you how important you are and how lucky that child was to be in your care at the time he/she needed you most. God Bless You!
